Steve and Billie Swan – Swan Quarter Horses

We live Newell, SD have been involved in ranching, rodeo and raising horses our entire lives. We both grew up ranching in western South Dakota. We have three children, Tracy, Amy & Nicole.

Tracy, his wife Dusti and their two kids, Darbi and Liam live in Dublin, TX and own and produce the Barrel Racing Report along with riding and training roping and barrel racing horses.

Amy lives in Ft. Collins, CO and works for Colorado State University as a research assistant. She’s retired from barrel racing but still serves as the ‘stand by’ jockey.

Nicole also lives in Ft. Collins and works as a web developer and programmer. Depending on the season, she can usually be found skiing or cycling.

We started raising speed bred horses in 2000 with the purchase of our stud Dr Meter Reader and a couple family owned brood mares. Since 2000 we have added to the brood mare band with bloodlines including; No Brakes Now, Royal Shake Em, Streakin Six, The Big Tipper, El Rey Burner, Bugs Alive in 75, The Signature, First Down Dash, Dash For Cash, Dr Kirk and more.

All of the mares that stand on our place have been proven in the arena or on the race track. We continue to ride and prove what we raise. So far, Dr Meter Reader has had 3 colts to the race track and all 3 have been money winners. This year, 2010, we will have our first crop performing in the arena at barrel futurities. All the colts are willing to work, have amazing athletic ability and are very trainable.
